RCL Group is a shipping company with international routes covering Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. Its 3 main operations include Shipper Owned Containers (SOC), Carrier Owned Containers (COC), and complementary services.
SOC refers to consignees who own shipping containers. They can be Main-Line Operators (MLO), Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC), independent shipping lines called ISO, oil tanker companies, or owners of other types of shipping containers. The comprehensive complementary services start from consignment agent, domestic and international container transport, logistics contract drafting, warehouse management, to supply chain management for international multimodal transport.
IT Challenges Faced by RCL Group
RCL Group’s first attempt at cloud was app development on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Two existing apps needed to be refactored and containerized.
To facilitate future growth, RCL Group also planned to migrate more apps to take advantage of cloud platform’s flexibility and scalability as well as security. AWS cloud native services provide connectivity, monitoring, management, and security while keeping the cost reasonable.
Working Together for Sustainable Growth
A G-Able team consisting of experienced and certified Cloud Architects, Cloud Engineers, and DevOps Platform Engineer, collaborated with RCL Group to design a new platform that satisfies the Group’s requirements. The aims were as follows:
- Design new and update existing network connectivity.
- Design and deploy AWS Services via Amazon EKS to support containerized applications.
- Design and deploy applications using deployment pipelines.
- Migrate and enhance app deployment processes so they run on AWS Native Services. Test and verify the deployment.
- Provide consultation and support on related matters such as successful knowledge transfer so RCL
- Group can continue to monitor and manage their applications.
Benefits of G-Able Solutions
- Faster and more cost-effective migration to AWS. Easier to scale applications.
- 200% lower deployment time after switching from manual to automatic deployment pipeline system.
- Easier management of applications for RCL Group’s developers supported by AWS ECR, AWS EKS, and deployment pipeline system.
- Lower costs for software subscription.
Benefits of AWS That Drive the Success
Amazon EKS is a managed Kubernetes service that runs on AWS. Users do not need to install, operate, and maintain the Kubernetes control plane or nodes. At the same time, you can easily implement, scale, and manage containerized applications with auto-scaling rules.
